Installation

Install Better Files, assign the permission sets for the original or React component, and add it to a Lightning record page.

On this page

Install the package

  1. Open Better Files on AppExchange.
  2. Follow the installation flow and choose the Salesforce org where you want to use the app.
  3. Complete the installation with an administrator account that can install packages.

You can confirm the installation and package version in Setup → Installed Packages. To use Better Files React, install a version that includes that component.

Assign access

  1. In Setup, open Permission Sets.
  2. Select each permission set required by your component.
  3. Open Manage Assignments and add the intended users.

Better Files grants access to the shared controller and configuration. Better Files React adds access to the React application and its upload service. The React permission set does not replace the original one.

Users still need access to the underlying records and files. These permission sets do not grant access to every file in the org.

Add Better Files to a record page

  1. Open a record in Lightning Experience.
  2. Choose Edit Page from the setup menu to open Lightning App Builder.
  3. Find Better Files or Better Files React in the component panel and drag your chosen component onto the page.
  4. Review the component’s settings, then save the page.
  5. Activate or assign the page for the apps, record types, and profiles that should use it.

See configuration for the available settings.

Check the setup

Open a record as an intended user with the required permission sets. Confirm that the file card loads, then select View All. Use a record with files the user can already access to check preview and download.

For Better Files React, also confirm that the Better Files application opens from the App Launcher. The component discovers the installed application automatically; no React app URL needs to be entered in configuration.

Repeat these checks after a package upgrade. If the React application is unavailable despite both permission sets being assigned, have an administrator check that the installed application bundle is active. An upgrade can preserve an inactive state.

If the component does not appear, check the page assignment and troubleshooting steps.
